Kronos Foods, Inc. was founded in 1975 by Chris Tomaras, a Chicago entrepreneur. Gyros was in its infancy and was served only in a handful of restaurants. Various chefs made gyros, each offering their own quality and taste. It was then that Kronos developed and successfully marketed the first Gyros cones—pre-formed and ready to use. This eliminated the inconsistency with individual chefs making the product. And the standardized Gyros cones led the way to the success and popularity of the Kronos Gyros sandwich. This proved to be the foundation of Kronos Foods, Inc.

Quickly following the Gyros cone, Kronos introduced a complete line of portion controlled Gyros meats; pre-cooked Gyros slices, uncooked Gyros strips and Gyros loaves. We further expanded our operations by manufacturing Pita Bread and acquiring a dairy operation to manufacture Tzatziki Sauce and White Satin.

Over the years we have expanded our product portfolio by manufacturing spanakopita and tyropita, acquiring Rain Creek Baking Company with dessert and fillo capabilities, adding new bakery lines, state-of-the-art equipment, in-line freezer and grill press to increase capabilities.

Today we operate in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Glendale Heights, IL.  We have established Kronos as the nation’s largest food service manufacturer of Mediterranean food.
